LOS ANGELES - The UC San Diego women's volleyball team ended its regular season on a high note Saturday, sweeping league opponent Cal State L.A. on the road. Scores from the Eagles Nest were 25-14, 25-13 and 25-23.
UCSD improved to 18-10 overall and 14-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Tritons finished third in the CCAA regular season standings and enter next week's inaugural league tournament as the No. 3 seed. They will meet sixth-seeded CSULA (19-10, 11-9) in a quarterfinal match on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
UC San Diego out-blocked Cal State L.A., 7-0, and held its opponent to a .055 (24-18-110) hitting percentage. The Tritons hit .210 (41-15-124) and sided-out at 60 percent compared to the Golden Eagles' 40 percent.
"We played a good match tonight, the team generated a lot of quality swings transitioning from defense to offense," said UCSD head coach Ricci Luyties. "With their attacking, our middles really made our offense run smoothly the entire match."
Triton outside Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) led all players with 12.0 points on nine kills and four blocks (two solo) while also adding 12 digs. Meagan Wright (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS), also an outside hitter, was just behind with 11.0 points. She tallied a match-high 10 kills to go along with seven digs.
Setter Heidi Sierks was the lone player with a double-double, finishing with 28 assists and 10 digs. Libero Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) had a match-best 19 digs, while opposite Kameron Cooper and middle Alyssa McNeely each had 8.0 points. Rebecca Seaberry hit .300 (5-2-10) in the middle.
CSULA got seven kills and 8.0 points from Iona Lofrano and 11 digs from Chloe Clancy.
The Tritons also swept the Golden Eagles back on Sept. 25 in La Jolla.
