LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the second-straight night, UC San Diego's Meagan Wright (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) put down 19 kills and added 17 digs to lead the Tritons to a sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday at RIMAC Arena. Scores were 25-13, 25-15 and 25-23.
With its sixth-consecutive win, UCSD improved to 15-9 overall and 11-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. A struggling CSUMB fell to 5-16 and 4-12.
Wright was a force, hitting .441 with only four errors in 34 attacks. The junior also had an assist and a block assist. Wright now has 16 double-doubles this season and has racked up at least 10 kills in 22 of 24 matches played. She also tallied 19 kills and 17 digs Friday in a 3-1 victory against Cal Poly Pomona.
Setter Heidi Sierks had 30 assists and 10 digs. Alyssa McNeely finished with five kills and two aces, while Rebecca Seaberry had four kills and six blocks (one solo).
Jessica Malcolm led the Otters with her eight kills and Rachel Cookus had a match-high 21 digs.
UC San Diego hit .210 (40-15-119) to Cal State Monterey Bay's .033 (27-23-123). The Tritons held a 65-55 advantage in digs.
In the third set, UCSD found itself down by a score of 22-19. However, the Tritons won six of the next seven points to ice the victory. McNeely had a kill and an ace, while Morgan Kissick had two kills and a block during the waning moments.
It was the final career regular season home match for four Triton seniors - Kameron Cooper, Danielle Dahle, Sierks and Bailey Turk.
The Tritons play their remaining four regular season matches on the road. Next week, they're at Stanislaus State on Nov. 6 and Chico State on Nov. 7.
