LA JOLLA, Calif. - Meagan Wright (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) had 19 kills and 17 digs to lead the UC San Diego women's volleyball team to its fifth-straight victory Friday, a 3-1 topping of conference opponent Cal Poly Pomona.
Scores at RIMAC Arena went 25-11, 14-25, 25-14, 25-17.
UCSD, now 14-9 overall, took over sole possession of third place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with its 10-5 mark. Both teams entered Friday night's contest with identical records.
Wright, who put together her 15th double-double of the season, hit .500 with a single error in 36 attacks.
Kameron Cooper finished with 13 kills for the Tritons. Setter Heidi Sierks had 46 assists and a team-best 17 digs for her 15th double-double as well, tying her with Wright for the team lead.
Freshman Kayla Evans (San Diego/Del Norte HS) had 15 digs and Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) added 11. Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS), the reigning CCAA Player of the Week, contributed 12 digs, six kills, an assist and a service ace.
UC San Diego out-hit Cal Poly Pomona, .280 (52-12-143) to .160 (49-23-163). The Broncos hit .026 (8-7-38) in the first set and then blasted to a .429 (20-2-42). The Tritons started off by posting the highest hitting number of the match in the first frame, swinging at a .433 (15-2-30).
CPP was led by Deanna Blaine's 15 kills and Zoe Herrera's match-high 29 digs.
UCSD held an 8-4 advantage in blocks.
It was the third meeting this season between the two squads with the Tritons winning two.
UCSD hosts Cal State Monterey Bay (5-15, 4-11) Saturday at 7 p.m. The Otters lost a four-set battle at No. 19 Cal State San Bernardino Friday. Scores of that match were 26-24, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-13. The Tritons defeated the Otters, 3-1, in Seaside on Oct. 15.
Saturday will be Senior Night and Cooper, Dahle, Sierks and Bailey Turk will be recognized prior to playing in the final home regular season match of their careers.
