LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's volleyball team hit a season-low .091 and fell, 3-1, against SF State Saturday night at RIMAC Arena. Scores were 22-25, 25-23, 25-14 and 25-21.
With the loss, UCSD dropped to 9-9 on the year and 5-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). SFSU improved to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in the league. Both teams entered the match tied for fifth place. The Tritons are now in eighth and the Gators are tied for fifth with Cal State L.A.
The Tritons had 46 kills and 29 errors in 186 total attacks and were blocked 14 times by the Gators. Both teams amassed 100 digs.
Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) had 13 kills for UCSD and Kameron Cooper totaled 11. Setter Heidi Sierks finished with 39 assists, 27 digs and three service aces. Her dig total was a career-high.
A total of five Tritons had 10 or more digs. Joining Sierks were Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito HS) (21), Dahle (18), Meagan Wright (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) (17) and Kayla Evans (San Diego/Del Norte HS) (10).
SF State was led by Taylor Brownlee with 17 kills. Jaclyn Clark was just behind with 16. Jessica Nicerio recorded a match-high with 29 digs.
The Gators hit .183 (57-21-197).
Prior to the match, banners for the UCSD Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2015 were unveiled at RIMAC Arena. The four honorees - John Flowers, Erica Hinckson, Louise Schwartz and Brian Siljander - will officially be inducted during a ceremony Sunday.
UCSD plays on the road next week, traveling to Cal State Monterey Bay (4-11, 3-7) Thursday and Cal Poly Pomona (11-7, 7-3) Sunday.
