No. 8 Tritons Downed by No. 5 Long Beach State and No. 6 Pacific at NorCal Tournament

STOCKTON, Calif. - No. 8 UC San Diego (3-6) concluded the Kap7 NorCal Classic Tournament with an eighth place finish. In the first contest of the day, the Tritons were dealt a tough 12-9 loss against No. 5 Long Beach State. In the second game of the afternoon, UCSD was downed by No. 6 Pacific, 7-5. 

Game One - No. 5 Long Beach State 12, No. 8 UCSD 9

The Tritons and the 49ers started the game goal-for-goal as the two teams found themselves tied in the first quarter, 3-3. With 38 seconds left in the period, LBSU's Nick Rascon was able to score to give his team a one point lead.

UCSD matched LBSU's goals in the second quarter as the 49ers hung onto the 6-5 lead. 

Pacific opened up the gap by outscoring the Tritons 6-4 for a final score of 12-9. 

Josh Stiling led all scorers in the game with five goals and Cameron Ravanbach had 11 saves. 

Nolan McConnell had four goals for the 49ers.

Game Two - No. 6 Pacific 7, No. 8 UCSD 5

A rough first quarter saw the Tritons trailing the Tigers, 3-1. Matt Michalko was able to score the first goal of the game, but Pacific didn't let a goal for the rest of the period as they were able to score three goals of their own to take the lead.

UCSD was able to limit Pacific to only a goal in the second frame, but were only able to score a goal of their own to go into halftime down by two.  

Stiling started the second half with a goal to cut the Pacific lead to one. The Tigers answered back, as J.T. Sarmiento found the back of the cage to go back up by two. Stiling was able to cut the lead to one with 2:38 left to play in the third quarter. Pacific scored two consecutive goals to end the period and extend the gap to three. 

The Tritons shut out the Tigers in the fourth quarter, but were only able to manufacture a goal of their own as UCSD fell to Pacific 7-5. 

Pacific was led by Devon Thumwood who had three goals. Goalkeeper Brady Moore had 11 saves. 

Cameron Ravanbach totaled nine saves. Stiling and Chase Cockerill had two goals each and Michalko added one.
