LA JOLLA, Calif. - In a match-up between two teams unbeaten in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play, the 13th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team came out on the losing end of a 3-1 decision against Cal State L.A. Friday at RIMAC Arena.

CSULA won by scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-15 and 27-25 to improve to 5-1 overall and remain perfect in CCAA matches at 3-0. UCSD saw its three-match win streak come to an end as it fell to 5-3 on the year and 3-1 in the league.

Team attack was the difference as the Golden Eagles hit .264 (55-17-144) while the Tritons were at .136 (51-29-162). Cal State L.A. out-blocked UC San Diego 10.5 to 5.0.

UCSD almost pushed the match into a fifth set. The fourth frame was tied on 17 different occasions, the final time at 25-25. The Tritons had set point after a Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) kill put them up 24-22. CSULA won the next two points on a kill and a block to tie it. A Kameron Cooper kill gave UCSD another set point at 25-24, but it was the final point the Tritons would score on the night. Iona Lofrano had back-to-back kills to give the Eagles a 26-25 advantage and Kymberly Silveyra ended it with another kill.

Dahle finished with a team-high 16 kills. Freshman Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and a team-best 16 digs. Setter Heidi Sierks had 33 assists and 13 digs.

For the Golden Eagles, Lofrano led all players with 20 kills and 20 digs.

UCSD's season-long five-match home stand comes to an end Saturday as it hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7 p.m. The Toros (1-6, 0-3) fell to Cal Poly Pomona in four sets Friday on the road.
