LA JOLLA, Calif. - Caitlin Brenton and Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) each had 15 kills as the 14th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team opened its league season Friday with a 3-1 victory against Cal State Stanislaus at RIMAC Arena.

Scores of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match were 20-25, 25-12, 25-13 and 25-21 in favor of UCSD, which improved to 3-2 on the young season. CSUS remained winless at 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA.

The Tritons hit a season-high .266 with 50 kills and 17 errors in 124 attacks. The Warriors swung at just a .101 clip with 38 kills and 24 errors in 138 attempts. UC San Diego held a 63-51 advantage in digs, out-blocked its opponent 7-2 and finished with nine service aces.

Brenton totaled 20.5 points as she had three aces and five block assists to go along with her 15 kills. The senior opposite hit .464 (15-2-28) while also collecting three assists and seven digs.

Setter Heidi Sierks posted her third double-double of the season with 42 assists and 13 digs. Makensie Bates had a match-high 17 digs.

For the Warriors, Blair Ehrlich had nine kills and Lindsay Skadeland added eight. Hailey Gruetzmacher led her team defensively with 12 digs.

The Tritons are 10-4 in CCAA openers since joining the league in 2001.

UCSD continues its five-match homestand Saturday when it hosts league opponent Chico State at 7 p.m. The Wildcats (2-2, 1-0) defeated Cal Poly Pomona in five sets Friday night.
