LA JOLLA, Calif. - Alexandra Torline had a match-high 22 kills to lead 18th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino to a 3-1 victory over UC San Diego Friday in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's volleyball action at RIMAC Arena.
Scores were 25-20, 25-25, 25-27 and 25-19.
UCSD, which has now lost five straight matches, fell to 12-11 overall and 10-9 in the CCAA. With its fifth consecutive win, CSUSB improved to 18-5 and 15-4. The Coyotes have won 10 of their last 11 contests.
CSUSB held a hefty .236 (55-18-157) to .121 (50-31-157) advantage in hitting percentage. The Coyotes also out-blocked the Tritons, 14-8.
Three players totaled 10 or more kills for UCSD, including Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) (12), Caitlin Brenton (10) and Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) (10). Dahle and Colla completed double-doubles by adding 15 and 12 digs, respectively. Heidi Sierks finished with 35 assists and 13 digs.
Torline, who leads the conference in kills, had an ace, six digs and four block assists to go along with her 22 kills. Tori May had 11 kills while Arielle McCullough had 20 digs.
The Coyotes never trailed in sets two and four. In fact, they led the whole way in the final frame.
Cal State San Bernardino won the season series as it took a 3-2 victory back on Oct. 4 at Coussoulis Arena.
UCSD hosts Humboldt State (16-7, 13-6 CCAA) Saturday night at 7 p.m. HSU defeated Cal Pomona in five sets Friday. The Tritons are 20-0 all-time against the Lumberjacks, including a 3-2 win in Arcata on Oct. 2.
It will be Senior Night as Brenton, Rachel Gam and Alyssa Lin will be making their final career appearances at RIMAC Arena.
