DAVIS, Calif - For the 15th time this season, senior
Josh Stiling led the Tritons as the top scorer. And for the 10th time this season, Stiling completed the hat trick as No. 6 UC San Diego (11-8, 5-0) defeated No. 14 UC Davis (12-15, 1-2), 10-6 on Friday at Schaal Aquatic Center.
Stiling opened the the game by scoring both of UCSD's first two goals. But the Aggies answered with two goals as well as the two teams were tied at two apiece after the first quarter.
Senior Lukas Syka gave the Tritons the lead in the second quarter, and Stiling completed the hat trick early as UCSD took a 4-2 lead. With 3:09 left, UC Davis' Max Vigeant cut the Aggies deficit to one. But the Syka extended the Tritons' lead to 5-3 by scoring the final goal of the half with 37 seconds left.
The Tritons scored three unanswered goals to end the third quarter. Luca De Vivo opened the quarter by finding the back of the cage, but the Aggies scored shortly after to make it 6-4. Stiling then recorded his fourth goal, while Syka completed the hat and Andy Moore record his first to help give the Tritons a five point lead as they headed to the final quarter.
UC Davis tried to fight back in the fourth, but with no luck. After the Aggies scored the first goal of the final quarter, Nick Alexander put the Tritons up 10-5. UC Davis scored once more before the game ended, but UCSD took its fifth straight Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) match of the season.
Senior goalie Cameron Ravanbach finished with nine saves.
UCSD will travel to Santa Clara tomorrow to take on the No. 16 Broncos for its final confernce match of the year.
