CARSON, Calif. - Danielle Dahle (La Mesa/Grossmont HS) had 10 kills and 10 digs to help pace the UC San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep against league opponent Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday at the Torodome.
UCSD won by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-22 to improve to 12-6 overall and 10-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). With its fifth consecutive loss, CSUDH dropped to 2-16 and 1-13.
Not only was Dahle's kill total a match-high, it put her over 1,000 for her career. The junior outside hitter is the ninth Triton in program history to eclipse the mark. Dahle now has 1,003 put-aways, ninth on the school's all-time list.
UCSD had another strong match at the net, out-blocking its opponent 13-9. Alyssa McNeely led the way with six blocks (three solos), while Caitlin Brenton and Kameron Cooper each had five.
"We had another good night blocking," said UCSD head coach Ricci Luyties. "However, offensively we need to keep improving."
Triton setter Heidi Sierks recorded another double-double with 27 assists and a match co-high 11 digs.
Bridget Hines led the Toros with seven kills, while Hailey Smith had 11 digs and Leilani Martinez added 10.
Both teams hit under .150 with UCSD finishing at .140 (36-22-100) and CSUDH at just .061 (30-23-115).
"If we can continue blocking like we have these last few matches and side out a little better, we'll be tough to beat," said Luyties.
UCSD has won four of its last five matches via sweep. Tonight's win gave the season series to the Tritons as they downed the Toros, 3-1, at RIMAC Arena back in September.
The Tritons play at Cal State L.A. (11-6, 9-5) Saturday night. The Golden Eagles defeated Cal Poly Pomona in four sets Friday. CSULA earned a 3-1 victory over UCSD in La Jolla earlier in the season.
