UCSD Fencing Hosts 17th Annual Bladerunner Tournament

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's and women's fencing teams hosted the 17th Annual Bladerunner Tournament Saturday and Sunday at RIMAC Arena.

Part of the Regional Open Circuit, the individual U.S. Fencing competition featured fencers from across the country, as a total of 207 competitors descended on La Jolla for the event.

Saturday's action included men's epee and foil, women's saber and wheelchair foil and saber. Women's epee and foil, men's saber and wheelchair epee wrapped up the tourney Sunday. 

UCSD came away with its best results in women's foil as freshman Nicole Chiang took gold and classmate Alina Marshall placed third. In women's saber, senior Alexandra Stanley was UCSD's top finisher, placing sixth. Junior Andrea Gory led the Tritons in women's epee, taking eighth place.

Freshman Drew Dickinson grabbed the men's top result, finishing third in men's saber. Travis Tibbitts, also a freshman, followed in fifth position. Junior Luc Ginestet placed sixth in men's epee and freshman Eduard Zilinskiy was sixth in men's foil.

Next up, the Tritons head to the East Coast to participate in the North American Cup, held Nov. 9-12 in Virginia Beach, Va.
