FULLERTON, Calif. - It was the second straight one-point match for the UC San Diego women's tennis team, but this time the Tritons came out on the losing end, falling, 4-3, at Division I Cal State Fullerton Wednesday at Titan Courts.
UCSD, which fell to 3-4 on the season, led early after taking the doubles point. Senior Cindy Dao and sophomore Jacquelyn Davis teamed to defeat Fullerton's Tiffany Mai and Monica Rodriguez in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. UCSD also won at No. 3 doubles as junior Katie Mulloy and senior Roxanna Pourmirzaie took down Karina Akhmedova and Malorie dela Cruz, 8-3.
However, Cal State Fullerton (3-8) won four singles match-ups in straight sets, including at No. 1 as Mai defeated senior Taskeen Bains, 7-5 and 6-2. The Tritons got wins from junior Samantha Yeung at No. 3 and Pourmirzaie at No. 6.
UCSD, which defeated Cal State L.A., 5-4, on the road in its previous match, returns home to Northview Courts to host four consecutive matches starting with Villanova, another Division I program, on Friday, March 4 at 2 p.m.
