Tritons Fall to Cougars 9-0 on Opening Day of 2011 Campaign

AZUSA, Calif. - The No. 14 UC San Diego women's tennis team could not pull out a point in their season opening loss to No. 8 Azusa Pacific on Saturday, as the Cougars swept all nine matches for a 9-0 win at Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.

Jacquelyn Davis was the lone Triton to win a set on the afternoon, picking off set one, 6-3, against Sarita Adhikary. However, Adhikary would recover to take the next two frames, 6-2, 10-6.

Taskeen Bains nearly won a set in her match with Sheryl Bon-Bakalov, but fell in a second set tiebreak 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).

Davis and Melissa Breisacher came the closest on the doubles side to giving UCSD a point on the day, but the duo fell 9-8 to Bon-Bakalov and Emily Harris.

The Tritons will be back in action on Tuesday. UCSD hosts Point Loma Nazarene at 2:00 p.m.
