THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's water polo
team, playing in its first road contest of the 2010 season, cruised to a 14-4
victory over Cal Lutheran Friday afternoon.
The Tritons (3-2) received scoring contributions from seven different players,
with Bryce Madsen registering four goals to lead UCSD. The match marked the
home opener for the Kingsmen, who dropped to 0-5 in the 2010 campaign.
The match's scoring started slow for both teams, as only one goal was recorded
in the first period. It came from the Tritons' William Brown, a left-handed
shooter who has played well through the year's first five games.
The UCSD attack rallied in the second quarter, which the Tritons ended on a 5-0
run to take a 8-1 advantage into intermission. In that second period, Brown
added two more goals and Madsen tallied his first two scores of the match.
UCSD outscored CLU 4-1 in the third period, while the two squads scored two
goals each in the fourth while the two squads tested the depth of their bench.
Aside from Madsen's four scores and Brown's three, Brian Donohoe (2) and Graham
Saber (2) were the two other Tritons to post a multi-goal game.
Next up for UCSD on its road trip is a 12 p.m. contest against No. 6 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
