Tritons Record Seven Victories During Day One Of NCAA National Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The UC San Diego women's fencing team currently sits in 17th place after the first day of competition at the 2010 National Collegiate Fencing Championships.

Victoria Mo was the top performer for UCSD on the day, recording four victories in women's epee. Mo, a freshman, currently sits in 17th after recording 47 touches during the first four rounds of competition.

Senior Pilar Alicea, returning to the national championships for the second year in a row, scored three victories in women's foil. Alicea, in 21st after day one, recorded 38 touches.

The NCAA National Championships, hosted by Harvard University, resume tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Gordon Track Center with rounds five through seven for each weapon. The semifinal bouts will follow the final three rounds of fencing tomorrow. The gold-medal bouts are slated for a 2 p.m. start, with individual awards being presented immediately after.
