Lawley Selected To Daktronics All-West Region First Team

SPOKANE, Wash. - UC San Diego senior guard Jordan Lawley was named to the 2009-10 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-West Region Men's Basketball First Team, it was announced Wednesday. Lawley finished second overall in voting to Seattle Pacific's Chris Banchero, who was named the West Region Player of the Year.

Lawley, who became the first Triton to win a California Collegiate Athletic Association scoring title since UCSD joined the conference nine years ago, tallied a total of 93 points in the balloting, while Banchero racked up 121 to claim the top honor.

Banchero averaged 19.5 points per game while leading SPU to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title and the top ranking in the West Region for most of the season. Lawley averaged career-highs of 20.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in his final season at UCSD.

Joining Lawley and Banchero on the five-member first team were Saint Martin's forward Blake Poole, Western Washington guard Morris Anderson, and forward Bryan LeDuc of Cal State San Bernardino.

Second team honorees included forward Lucas Alves of BYU-Hawaii, guard Brandon Larrieu of Seattle Pacific, guard Zac Tiedeman of Humboldt State, guard Austin Swift of Cal Poly Pomona, and forward Derrick Webb of Western Washington. Alves was the West Region Player of the Year in 2008-09.

Players selected to the region first team will now be listed on the Daktronics All-American national ballot. The All-American team will be announced later this month. The west region includes teams from the CCAA, GNAC, and Pacific West Conference.

The all-region teams are selected by sports information directors at the region's schools that sponsor men's basketball. The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing, and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
