SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The 11th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team fell, 10-6, in its WWPA Championships semifinal match-up with No. 12 UC Davis on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Aquatic Center in Santa Clara.
The loss will send UCSD (13-12) into the WWPA Championships' third place match to face host Santa Clara (18-15) at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. UCD (18-9) will face three-time defending WWPA tournament champion Loyola Marymount (17-8) in the championship match on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Graham Saber scored three times and John Butler had two goals for the Tritons. Ryan Allred notched the other UCSD score while goalkeeper David Morton made eight saves.
The winner of UCD-LMU will earn an automatic bid to the 2010 National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship hosted by Cal Dec. 4-5.
Since 2000, UCSD and LMU are the only two schools that have captured the WWPA championship.
