Tritons Compete At 14th Annual BladeRunner Tournament

LA JOLLA, Calif. - On January 2nd and 3rd the UC San Diego fencing team hosted nearly 200 competitors for the 14th annual BladeRunner tournament. The event served to provide excellent training to the team and to showcase UCSD to the larger fencing community. The team also earned some good results in a very strong competition.

The best results for the Tritons came in women's foil. Team captain Pilar Alicea captured the gold, winning the event for the second year in a row. Freshman Rose Forcier fenced well, taking a bronze medal, and senior Razan Faraj took eighth. In women's epee Vickie Mo took another medal for the Tritons with a third place finish.

Men's foil had three UCSD fencers make the top eight; Michael Fong took fifth, Benjamin Dorn took sixth, and Nalin Desai placed eighth. In men's sabre Christopher Bonner took fifth and in men's epee, Patrick Burton took seventh and Alexander Lavin took eighth.

In women's sabre Alicia Trigeiro took eighth and Anne Marie Schnecker placed 10th.

In two weeks the top Triton fencers will be traveling to San Jose to fence in the North American Cup. Team competition will then resume at the end of the month as UCSD will travel to Northwestern.
