SAN JOSE, Calif. – The UC San Diego fencing team had several members take part in the North American Cup Tournament, January 15-18. The event, used for ranking the top fencers on the continent, is open to fencers from all over the world.
With up to 260 fencing competing in a single event, UCSD's student-athletes gained valuable experience at the tournament. Michael Fong highlighted the competition in the under-20 men's foil division, fighting his way to a 22nd-place finish. Fong was also the Triton's best finisher at the North American Cup last season, placing 44th out of 188 competitors in men's foil.
The Tritons return to action on January 30, competing at the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, Illinois.
