Alan Husted Signs Professional Contract In Philippines

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Former UC San Diego standout Alan Husted will continue his basketball career, playing professionally in the Liga Filipina in the Philippines. A member of the Tritons from 2006-09, Husted has signed a contract with the Smart-Pampanga Buddies, a Philippine Basketball Association development team located in Angeles City.

A 6-1 guard, Husted averaged 6.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.6 steals in 67 career games for the Tritons over the last three seasons. The Canyon Country, Calif. native had a breakout campaign as a senior in 2008-09, posting career-highs in points (9.7), rebounds (3.0), assists (2.4) and steals (1.1), while shooting better than 37% from behind the three-point line. An excellent shooter from all over the floor, Husted wrapped up his career shooting better than 41% from the field and over 40% on threes.

Husted started all 28 games for UCSD last season, helping the Tritons to a 17-11 overall record, a 13-7 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, and a second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance.

“Alan had a wonderful career as a student-athlete in our program and I couldn't be more pleased that he has this opportunity to continue playing as a professional,” UCSD head coach Chris Carlson said. “Knowing him as we do at UCSD, he will make the most of this opportunity and continue to represent the program in the best light.”

Angeles City is in the Pampanga Province, located in the Central Luzon region.
