LA JOLLA, Calif. ?The UC San Diego women's tennis team dropped its spring season opener to Cal Baptist by a 7-2 score on Monday afternoon. UCSD scored points at the No. 1 doubles position where Ina Dan and Taskeen Bains earned an 8-3 win. In singles, Tessa Tran won at the No. 4 singles position with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Dan competed at the No. 1 singles spot, losing a three set decision while Anita Athavale, Valerie Tang, Bains and Roxy Poumirzaie also competed in singles. UCSD is back in action on Thursday, February 5 when it travels to take on division I Cal State Fullerton.
Dan and Bains won at the No. 1 doubles spot by an 8-3 win. Athavale and Tang lost at No. 2 doubles by an 8-5 score while Tran and Pourmirzaie also lost at the No. 3 doubles spot by an 8-5 margin.
In singles, Dan fell at the No. 1 singles position by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 margin. Athavale lost at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Tang lost at No. 3 singles 6-3, 7-6, Tran won by scores of 6-4, 6-3. Bains lost at No. 5 singles 7-4, 6-0 and Pourmirzaie lost at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-2.
