No. 2 UC San Diego Sweeps Cal State Dominguez Hills For 18th Consecutive Time

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 2nd-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team improved to 39-1 all-time against Cal State Dominguez Hills with a 25-15, 25-20, 25-13 sweep on Thursday night at the Torodome. The win was also UCSD's 12th straight win and 18th consecutive sweep against CSUDH. UCSD used several different lineups as eight different Tritons had multiple kills. Hillary Williamson led the way with nine kills on .421 hitting. Sylvia Schmidt added seven kills while Julia Freidenberg chipped in with six kills. With the win, UCSD improves to 21-1, 13-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while CSUDH drops to 1-21, 1-14 CCAA.

The 18 consecutive sweeps over the Toros goes back to the year 2000. In every year since the 2000 season, the Tritons and Toros have met two times per year with the Tritons winning in straight sets each time.

In addition to Williamson's nine kills, the 2008 CCAA Freshman of the Year added four digs and two aces. Roxanne Brunsting led the Tritons with 15 digs.

Elaine Chen had 26 assists, five digs, three kills and two aces. Chen now has 2,694 career assists, ranking third all-time in school history.

The Tritons outhit the Toros .252 - .058 in the match.

Also for the Tritons, Freidenberg's six kills came on .364 hitting while Karen Reis had five kills. Audrey Green had three kills on .600 hitting in just two sets played while Katie Condon saw action in only the first set, tallying three kills.

UCSD's 12 straight wins is its longest winning streak since winning 18 consecutive matches during the 2006 season.

In the first set against the Toros, UCSD outhit CSUDH .312 - .000. In the set, Reis led the way with four kills while Freidenberg and Condon had three kills each. UCSD scored 11 of the first 15 points of the set and was not challenged the rest of the set, leading by as many as 10 points. Lauren Bradley served up an ace for the final point at 25-15.

The Tritons scored the first five points of the second set on Williamson serves. The Toros climbed back within 9-7 before Williamson had three consecutive kills to push UCSD's lead back to 13-7. The Tritons extended the lead to 20-11 on a Freidenberg kill and the Tritons never looked back. Williamson sent home the final kill at 25-20 UCSD.

The third set saw the Tritons fall behind 3-1 but UCSD quickly regained the lead at 12-5 after Williamson's third kill of the set. Williamson would later add a fourth kill of the set to push the Triton lead to 14-6. The Tritons would contine to build the lead and Brunsting finished off the match with an ace, followed by a CSUDH attack error to close the scoring at 25-13 UCSD.

UCSD is back in action on Friday night with a difficult match-up against No. 22 Cal State L.A. The Tritons defeated the Golden Eagles earlier this season in five sets. First serve tomorrow night is set for 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
