PRINCETON, N.J. ? The 9th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team completed an undefeated tournament in Princeton on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons defeated Johns Hopkins 13-5 as Daniel Garcia and Sidd Menon scored three goals apiece. The Tritons had seven different student-athletes score in a 9-6 win over No. 11 Navy. Steven Donohoe and Garcia scored two goals apiece against the Midshipmen. UCSD head coach Denny Harper earned career win No. 499 and the Tritons are now 8-1 on the year. The Tritons are back in action next week at the NorCal Tournament in Stockton. UCSD faces Long Beach State at 9:20 a.m. on September 20.
In the win against Johns Hopkins, the Tritons led by a 1-0 score after the first period. The Tritons opened up the game with a strong second quarter, going into halftime with a 7-1 edge. UCSD won the next two periods and won the game 13-5. Garcia and Menon scored three apiece while Donohoe and Mark Saber scored two each. Jeff Hunt, A.J. Kotanjian and Kneif Lohse also scored.
In the win against Navy, The Tritons outscored the Mids 2-1 in the first period, tied in the second and third and outscored Navy 3-1 in the final period for the 9-6 win. Donohoe and Garcia scored two each, while Peter Gresham, Jeff Hunt, Adnan Jerkovic, Kotanjian and Madsen also scored.
