SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. ? The 15th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team lost to No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino 27-25, 25-13, 25-16 on Saturday night on the CSUSB campus. With the loss, the Tritons drop to 18-5, 12-4 California Collegiate Athletic Association while the Coyotes improve to 21-3, 13-3 CCAA. UCSD was led by Rebecca Bailey with 15 kills on .281 hitting, while Sylvia Schmidt added seven kills. Bailey, Schmidt and Kimberly Carpenter combined for 28 of UCSD's 33 kills on the night. CSUSB was paced by Jessica Granados with 15 kills. UCSD is back in action on Thursday, November 6 when it hosts Cal State Stanislaus. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
The Tritons only managed two aces on the night and were outhit .337 to .153. Roxanne Brunsting had a team-high eight digs while Karen Reis added six digs. The teams split the season conference series at 1-1.
The first set was the closes of the night as it included 14 ties and 10 lead changes. UCSD held a 24-22 lead but was unable to put away the Coyotes. A Bailey kill put UCSD up 25-24, but Granados followed to tie the set. CSUSB followed with two unanswered kills to earn the 27-25 win.
UCSD hurt themselves in set two, with seven kills and seven errors, while CSUSB hit at a .207 clip. Set three did not get much better as the Coyotes hit at a .560 clip, and held the Tritons to just a .172 percentage.
