ARCATA, Calif. ? The 11th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball earned a conference road victory at Humboldt State, defeating the Lumberjacks 27-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-10 on Friday night in Arcata. The Tritons made late runs to capture each of the first two sets. Freshman Katie Condon sent down a career-high 20 kills on .447 hitting to pace the Tritons. Rebecca Bailey added 16 kills while Sylvia Schmidt added 12 kills. Elaine Chen recorded 50 assists and six digs. With the win, UCSD improves to 21-5, 15-4 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Lumberjacks drop to 9-17, 7-12 CCAA. The Tritons are now 9-0 all-time against Humboldt State.
Also for the Tritons, Roxanne Brunsting had a match-high 22 digs.
In the first set, UCSD found themselves in a tough spot, trailing 24-21. Schmidt recorded back-to-back kills, followed by a Condon kill to tie the set at 24-24. Schmidt was called on again and again delivered to give the Tritons a one point lead. After an HSU sideout, a HSU attack error, followed by a Schmidt and Bailey block gave UCSD the comeback win in the set at 27-25.
The Tritons trailed 22-21 in the second set before making another late push. After an HSU service error tied the set, Condon recorded a kill, followed by a Michelle Torres ace. Condon then sent down the set ender at 25-22 UCSD.
HSU hit at a .367 clip in set three to take the set 25-18.
UCSD cruised to the fourth set win, 25-10, its largest margin of win in a single set this season. Condon added seven more kills in the decisive fourth set for UCSD.
The Tritons are back in action tomorrow night when they face Sonoma State. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Rohnert Park.
