CLAREMONT, Calif. ? The 12th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team swept its two match-ups in Claremont on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons began the day with an 8-5 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Peter Gresham scored twice in the win. It was UCSD's second win of the season over CMS after also beating the Stags at the Inland Empire Tournament. The Tritons ended the day with a 13-7 win over Pomona Pitzer. Steven Donohoe scored five times while Daniel Garcia added four goals. With the pair of wins, UCSD improves to 9-6 on the season. UCSD is back in action on Friday, October 5 when it hosts UC Santa Barbara at 6:00 p.m. in Canyonview Pool.
In UCSD's 8-5 win over CMS, Gresham's two goals led the Tritons as Adam Rule anchored the Tritons defense. UCSD has now outscored CMS 21-9 in two meetings.
Against the Sagehens, Donohoe and Garcia combined for nine of UCSD's 13 goals. The Tritons opened the season with a 19-6 win at Pomona Pitzer.
UCSD's next two opponents include a two-game homestand. The Tritons face UCSB on Friday Oct. 5 at 6:00 p.m. and host Long Beach State at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6.
With two more wins on the season, head coach Denny Harper now has 488 career victories.
