CHICO Calif. ? The 16th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team dropped its second straight conference match, losing to 22nd-ranked Chico State 30-17, 30-21, 30-32, 30-21 on Friday night in Chico. The Wildcats outhit UCSD .303 - .115 and the duo of Lindsay Macias and Gillian Heydorff combined for 36 kills in defeating the Tritons. As a team, UCSD could only tally 39 kills, led by Rebecca Bailey and Amber Ries with 12 kills apiece. Natalie Facchini led the Tritons with 11 digs. With the loss, UCSD drops to 7-4, 1-2 CCAA, while the Wildcats improve to 10-3, 3-0 CCAA.
The Tritons hit .000 and .143 in the first two games, respectively. At the same time, Chico State hit .324 in game one and .412 in game two, cruising to the 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third game, UCSD led by as many as eight points and looked to be in command, leading 28-20. Chico State began to chip away and cut the deficit down to 29-23. The Wildcats put together a run to tie the match at 30-30 before a Chico service error and a Ries kill gave UCSD the game three win and forced the fourth game.
In the fourth game, Chico hit .300 again, while UCSD hit at a .038 clip. Chico led by as many as nine points in the fourth game, taking a 20-11 lead and cruising to the game four win.
UCSD is back in action on Saturday night when it takes on Cal State Stanislaus. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Turlock, Calif.
