SANTA CRUZ, Calif. ? The 15th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team defeated 20th-ranked Cal State Bakersfield 12-9 and advanced to the Western Water Polo Association semifinals. UCSD was led by Natalie Hockett who scored six goals, including four in the second quarter. UCSD improves to 18-13 on the season and will play the winner of the UC Davis ? Colorado State game. UCSD led 5-2 and 9-4 at the half, thanks to Hockett's four, second quarter scores. Cal State Bakersfield was led by Yulia Blinovskaya, Kelly Bowling and Paola Medina with two goals apiece. The Tritons are back in action on Saturday, in the WWPA semifinals. The tournament is being held on the UC Santa Cruz campus.
