LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior Robby Peters scored 17 points in his final collegiate game, lifting the UC San Diego men's basketball team to a 73-47 victory over visiting San Francisco State on Saturday evening in RIMAC Arena. One night after Peters made 13 treys, he made five 3-pointers to give him 254 for his career, breaking the all-time 3-point record at UCSD, surpassing Mike Wall's record from 1995-99.
The Tritons (12-15, 10-12 CCAA) never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 10 points in the first half before settling on a 32-25 advantage at halftime. Peters, who had two long range bombs in the first half, connected on two more in the first 49 seconds of the second half to give him the all-time record. His last 3-pointer came at the 17:54 mark and put the Tritons up by a double digit lead that would not dip below 10 the rest of the way.
UCSD shot 50.0% from the floor on the night, making 25 of 50 shots taken, including a 7-for-16 (43.8%) night from long range. The only place that the Tritons struggled to shoot from was the charity stripe where they went 16-for-27 (59.3%).
Conversely, SFSU (6-21, 2-20 CCAA) struggled from all spots on the court, making less than 35% of its shots from both the 2-point and 3-point areas while managing only a 54.5% mark from the foul line.
The Tritons dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Gators by a 42-26 margin. Both teams committed 16 turnovers, but it was UCSD that handed out 19 assists, compared to only eight from SFSU.
In addition to Peters' game-high 17, UCSD had two other players in double digits. Freshman Jordan Lawley concluded a steallar rookie campaign with 13 points and five rebounds while sophomore Henry Patterson added 11 points and five boards.
Arcenio Ramirez led SF State in scoring, pouring in 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Daniel Robinson was next on the Gators' scoring list with his eigh points while Derek Fletcher added six points and a team-high five rebounds.
