LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team dropped a 17-5 decision to San Diego Christian College at Triton Baseball Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks batted around in innings two and three, scoring 13 runs in the process, putting the game quickly out of reach. UCSD's Matt Lawson went 2-for-3 to lead the Tritons. Jonathan Erickson had two RBI, while David Morehead, Chris Carl and Chris Franco also drove in runs.
After two quick outs in the top of the first, the Hawks' Josh Doane reached on a single and stole second and third, but UCSD got out of the inning on Daniel Simmons' second strikeout of the inning.
SDCC batted around in the second and scored seven times on two homeruns to lead 7-0.
Chris Hom and Tony Bonelli led off the UCSD second with back-to-back singles. Hom advanced to third on a pickoff play and would score on Chris Carl's sac fly to center to bring UCSD to 7-1.
SDCC's first seven reached safely in the third, scoring six more times to make the score 13-1.
UCSD added three runs in the sixth on back-to-back doubles in the sixth by James Ferguson and Jonathan Erickson.
The Hawks won the game 17-5.
UCSD is back in action on Friday, February 9 against Grand Canyon, the first of a three-game set. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:00 p.m. in Phoenix, Ariz.
