COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? The 14th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team defeated 20th-ranked Redlands 14-8 to capture the fifth-place game at the Western Water Polo Association Championships on Sunday. After being tied in the first quarter, UCSD pulled away scoring nine goals in the next two frames. The Tritons led by as many as eight goals in the contest. Earlier this season, Redlands edged the Tritons 12-10. Daniel Garcia and Jeff Hunt scored three goals apiece. With the win, UCSD's season comes to a close at 12-17. Head Coach Denny Harper will enter the 2008 season with 491 career wins.

A 9-3 advantage in the second and third periods gave fourth-seed UC San Diego a 14-8 win over sixth-seed Redlands in the fifth-place contest. The Tritons got out to a 3-0 lead before the Bulldogs managed to tie up the game at the end of the opening period. However, UCSD began its run in the second period, taking an 8-4 lead at the half and leading by as many as eight goals before the final 14-8 score. Daniel Garcia and Jeff Hunt led the Tritons with three goals each, while Andrew Smith-Jones and Buddy Olds paced the Bulldogs with two goals apiece.
