The 14th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team scored 10 first-half goals en route to a 19-6 win over UC Santa Cruz on day two of the Western Water Polo Association Championships on Saturday. Eleven different Tritons scored as Daniel Garcia, Curtis Williamson, Steven Donohoe, Sean Roberts, Chance Vermilyea and Ben Miller all scored multiple times. Jeff Hunt, Peter Gresham, Sidd Menon and Simon Schafer added goals. The Tritons shutout UCSC 5-0 in the third period. UCSD will play in the fifth-place game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. With the win, UCSD improves to 11-17 on the season.

Fourth-seed UC San Diego scored early and often in a 19-6 rout of eighth-seed UC Santa Cruz in the consolation bracket. With a 6-1 lead after one period, the Tritons held a 10-3 advantage at the half and reached a 13-goal lead early in the fourth period. Eleven different players scored for UCSD, led by Daniel Garcia with four goals. Meanwhile, Grant Shubin led UCSC with three goals, all in the final quarter. UC San Diego will move into tomorrow's fifth-place contest, while UC Santa Cruz will compete for seventh place.
