LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 20th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team cruised past Cal State Monterey Bay 30-20, 30-19, 30-19 on Senior Night in RIMAC Arena. It was the 14th time UCSD has swept an opponent this season. Natalie Facchini broke the UCSD single-season record for digs as the senior libero now has 511 on the season. Senior Casey Wilson recorded a match-high 13 kills on .333 hitting. Kim Adams had a match-high 38 assists, 12 digs and the game ending kill in game two. UCSD improves to 19-7, 13-5 CCAA, while the Otters finish the season at 12-19, 8-10 CCAA.
UCSD will now await word about the postseason as the NCAA will make the announcement of the eight team Pacific Regional on Sunday evening. The NCAA Pacific Regional will begin on November 15 and the site will also be announced on Sunday.
The senior night match also featured strong matches by Amber Ries with seven kills on .350 hitting and Hannah Gary with four kills and a block. The senior class of Adams, Gary, Wilson, Facchini and Ries have helped the Tritons to 94 wins over the past four years.
Rebecca Bailey added 12 kills on .321 hitting and Sylvia Schmidt added nine kills for UCSD.
CSUMB was paced by Christine Ricketts with nine kills on .389 hitting.
With UCSD leading 18-17 in game one, the Tritons got consecutive kills by Schmidt to go ahead 22-17 and force CSUMB to take timeout. UCSD would finish the game on a Karen Ries service run as she served up the last five points of the game, the last on an ace at 30-20 UCSD.
In game two, UCSD hit at a .282 clip and held the Otters to .000. The Tritons quickly turned a 12-10 lead into a 20-12 advantage on a Wilson service run. UCSD was never threatened in the game as Adams sent down a free ball to end game two at 30-19 Tritons.
UCSD's game three was its most efficient, hitting at a .341 clip. The Tritons took command after a timeout, leading 13-10. A 7-2 run put UCSD on top 20-12 and CSUMB could pull no closer than seven points the rest of the way. Bailey recorded the final kill and UCSD had its sweep at 30-19.
