IRVINE, Calif. ? The 13th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team lost its final two games at the Southern California Tournament to finish in 12th-place on Sunday. UCSD outscored Saint Francis in the second half, but it was not enough as the Terriers defeated the Tritons 16-8. Steven Donohoe and Peter Gresham scored twice apiece. The Tritons lost to No. 14 Pacific in the second game by a 16-11 score. Curtis Williamson and Donohoe scored four times each. The Tritons could not find an answer to the Tigers' Dragan Bakic who scored eight times. The losses drop the Tritons record to 10-11 for the season. UCSD is back in action on Friday, October 19 when it hosts UC Davis. First sprint is set for 6:00 p.m. in Canyonview Pool.
In the loss to Saint Francis, the Tritons fell behind 7-2 after the first quarter and 12-3 at the break. In addition to Dohonoe and Gresham scoring two goals each, Simon Schafer, Ian Bausback, Michael Libutti and Jeff Hunt added goals. Goalkeeper Adam Rule notched four saves.
Against Pacific, the Tritons were within 4-3 after the first quarter and trailed 8-5 at the break. The Tigers outscored the Tritons by one goal in each of the final two quarters to close out the game. Williamson and Dohonoe scored four goals each, while Daniel Garcia scored the remainder of UCSD's total of 11 goals.
Earlier this season at the Northern California Tournament, UCSD defeated Pacific 14-9 in Berkeley.
