BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's basketball team dropped a 67-36 decision on Saturday night to Cal State Bakersfield in Rabobank Arena. The Tritons fall to 4-8 on the season and 2-5 in CCAA play while the Roadrunners improve to 7-7 overall and remain tied atop the league standings with their 6-1 conference mark.
Senior Robby Peters hit a 3-pointer just before halftime to draw the Tritons within seven points at 23-16, but that would be as close as UCSD would get as the Roadrunners out-scored the Tritons by a 44-20 margin in the second half to pull away for the 31-point victory.
Sophomore Henry Patterson scored a team-high 12 points in the loss for the Tritons while Peters finished the game with eight points. Junior Clint Allard was held scoreless for the first time in his career, going 0-for-5 in 23 minutes of play. All five of Allard's shots came from long range.
Richard Andrews led the Roadrunners with 13 points on the night while Zack Grasmick added 12 in the win. Trent Blakely scored nine points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds.
The Tritons made only 11 of 35 shots on the night for a .314 shooting percentage while the ?Runners made 24 of their 42 field goal attempts (51.7%) while also going 10-for-21 (47.6%) from behind the 3-point arc.
CSUB also dominated the glass on the evening, out-rebounding UCSD by a 33-13 margin. Of the Tritons' 13 rebounds, seven came on the offensive end.
Head coach Bill Carr and his squad returns home next weekend for their first home games since December 10. The Tritons host 14th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Friday evening and 22nd-ranked Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night. Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m. inside RIMAC Arena.
