The 8th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team put down 14 aces en route to a 30-15, 30-24, 30-23 win over Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night in RIMAC Arena. For the Tritons,
Amber Ries had a match-high 11 kills, with
Rebecca Bailey and
Nicole Courtney tallying 10 apiece. Courtney also had 14 digs and
Natalie Facchini added 19 digs. The Tritons controlled the service line with 14 aces, six by
Michelle Torres. UCSD improves to 8-0, 3-0 CCAA while the Warriors drop to 2-6, 0-3 CCAA.
The Tritons scored 10 of the first 14 points and never looked back in game one, winning the game 30-15. UCSD outhit CSUS .263- -.100.
In game two, CSUS took a lead of 10-8 and the teams remained close as the score was tied at 20-20 after a UCSD error. The Tritons scored the next three points on a Sylvia Schmidt kill, a CSUS error and an ace by Bailey. CSUS was able to cut it down to 25-23 and 26-24, before Ries, two Bailey kills and a Courtney kill ended the game at 30-24 UCSD.
Game three was another close one for UCSD as CSUS took a 20-18 lead. UCSD stormed back with Michelle Torres serving up three aces in a six point run as UCSD went in front 24-20. CSUS would stay within 26-23, but the Tritons finished strong with consecutive kills by Kristin Halvorsen, Brianna Koche and Bailey for the 30-23 win.
UCSD is back in action tomorrow night when it hosts No. 24 Chico State at 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
