SEASIDE, Calif. ? The 13th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 23-30, 32-30, 30-25, 30-27 on Friday night in Seaside. For the first time this season, UCSD participated in a match that went over the minimum of three games. Both teams hit at a high efficiency, with the Otters holding a .364-.356 advantage. Nicole Courtney led the Tritons with 15 kills, while Amber Ries added 14. Rebecca Bailey and Brianna Koche added 11 apiece. Karen Reis added five aces and Natalie Facchini had a match-high 21 digs.
The Tritons improve to 11-2, 6-2 CCAA while the Otters drop to 6-9, 1-6 CCAA. In five total meetings, this was the first time that CSUMB won a game.
Also contributing for UCSD was Sylvia Schmidt with seven kills and four blocks. Kristin Halvorsen was the primary setter with 40 assists, three aces and 16 digs.
CSUMB was led by Brittany Etchings with 18 kills and 13 digs.
UCSD is back in action next week when it hosts Sonoma State at 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena on Friday, September 29.
