STANFORD, Calif. ? The 5th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team split its first two games at the NorCal Tournament, hosted by Stanford. UCSD began the day with a 10-8 overtime win against 12th-ranked UC Irvine. A.J. Kotanjian and Steven Donohoe each scored in overtime to lead UCSD to the win. Kotanjian finished with four scores while Ty Lackey added three goals. UCSD then went up against No. 1 California and lost 12-8. Kotanjian and Lackey scored two goals apiece in defeat. The Tritons face Pacific at 8:30 a.m. in the first of two match-ups on Sunday.
Against UCI, the Anteaters scored a goal with 2:33 remaining to send the game into overtime. Kotanjian finished with four goals and Lackey added three. Jesse Casellini netted two scores while Steven Donohoe added one.
Against Cal, UCSD fell behind 7-2 at halftime but put together a rally in the third period, outscoring the Bears 4-1 and trailed 8-6 through three. The Bears ended up holding off the Tritons12-8.
