LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 10th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team remained perfect in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, defeating Cal State San Bernardino by an 8-1 score on Friday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus.
With the win the Tritons improve to 7-5 overall and 6-0 in league play while the Coyotes fall to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in CCAA action.
UCSD held a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Marsha Malinow and Ina Dan teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 while Justine Ang Fonte and Molly Sullens combined for an 8-0 win at No. 3.
The Tritons won all six singles matches in straight-sets including a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 for Malinow over Jennifer Joy. Kristin Bronowicki had the easiest time during singles play, winning at the No. 4 spot by scores of 6-0 and 6-1 over Xinia Chaves.
Head coach Liz LaPlante and her squad returns to action on Saturday, hosting Cal State Bakersfield at 1 p.m. Following that match, the Tritons will take next week off for Final Exams before resuming play against Hawaii Pacific on April 1 at 11 a.m. on the UCSD campus.
