Tritons Lose to Cal State Bakersfield 80-60

LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's basketball team suffered a tough 80-60 loss to Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday night in RIMAC Arena. With the loss the Tritons fall to 9-12 overall and 6-6 in CCAA play while the Roadrunners improve to 15-4 and 10-2 in league action.

 

Antonio Griffin led the CSUB offensive attack with his 21 points. He also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. Dwuan Rice and Randall Harding added 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the win.

 

As a team the ?Runners shot 46.2% from the floor and pulled down 39 rebounds, 15 more than the Tritons who made only 40.9% of their shots from the field. UCSD committed 18 turnovers while swiping only three steals. CSUB turned it over 14 times but had seven steals and seven blocked shots.

 

Freshman Henry Patterson led the UCSD offense with 13 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the floor and 5-of-10 from the free throw line. Robby Peters added nine points on 3-for-8 shooting from long range while Odioh Odiye chipped in with eight points and a game-high four assists.

 

The win vaults Cal State Bakersfield into a tie for first place with Sonoma State who lost at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday evening. The Tritons fall into fifth place as Cal Poly Pomona moved into fourth place by itself with the win over SSU.

 

UCSD returns to action next weekend, traveling to Chico State on Friday night and Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday evening. Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m. starts.
