The 5th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team advanced to the Western Water Polo Association Championship game by defeating 17th-ranked Santa Clara 13-8 on Saturday afternoon in Pomona. UCSD takes on 8th-ranked Loyola Marymount in the WWPA championship, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Final Four on the line. The game will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19 in Pomona.
The Tritons and Lions have met three times this season, with UCSD winning each game by one goal. UCSD improves to 24-5, the 24 victories ties the school record set by the 2005 squad.
While the Tritons defeated the Broncos, LMU defeated UC Davis by a 6-3 score in the other semifinal.
