LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 11^th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team got strong performances from its seniors with a 30-21, 30-17, 30-24 sweep over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.  Seniors Brianna Koche (14 kills, .481 attack percentage, six digs), Nicole Courtney (12 kills, 12 digs), Kristin Halvorsen (48 assists, six digs) and Lauren Chiodini (seven digs) led UCSD, playing their final collegiate match in RIMAC Arena.  UCSD fell behind 18-14 in game three, but rallied with a 10-1 run to take control.  Rebecca Bailey added 14 kills, while Sylvia Schmidt added eight kills and a team-high four blocks.

As a team, UCSD outhit the Otters .317 - .087.  Natalie Facchini had a team-high 13 digs.

In the first game, UCSD scored seven of the first 10 points, the last on a Schmidt kill and never looked back.  Back-to-back aces by Halvorsen opened up a 16-10 advantage as UCSD would lead by as many as 10 points.  Amber Ries put down the final kill as UCSD took game one 30-21.

Game two saw the Tritons hold CSUMB to a -.047 attack percentage as UCSD recorded all six of its team blocks in the game.  UCSD quickly opened up a 14-6 lead on back-to-back aces by Courtney.  CSUMB would get no closer than six points the rest of the way as Bailey sent down the final two kills for UCSD at 30-17.

The Otters did not go quietly in game three, taking an 18-14 lead, forcing UCSD to call its second timeout early.  Back-to-back kills by Bailey and Schmidt began to swing the momentum.  Schmidt then served up three consecutive points, the last an ace to give UCSD a 20-19 lead, its first lead since 12-11.  After the 10-1 run and UCSD leading 24-19, CSUMB would later pull within 25-23 after a UCSD error.  UCSD then scored four straight on kills by Koche, Bailey, Koche and Bailey to take command at 29-23.  The senior Koche then put down the final kill to give UCSD the 30-24 win.

UCSD is back in action for the final weekend of CCAA play when it travels to take on Humboldt State and Sonoma State on Nov. 3-4.  First serve for both matches is slated for 7:00 p.m.
