CARSON, Calif. ? The 11th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team won its 12th straight with a 30-14, 30-20, 30-22 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday night. The Tritons hit around .400 for most of the match and won with a .363 - .018 edge. Rebecca Bailey and Brianna Koche had 12 kills apiece to lead UCSD. The Tritons outblocked CSUDH 12-4, as Amber Ries tallied seven blocks and Koche and Hannah Gary added six apiece. With the win, UCSD improves to 20-2, 15-2 CCAA, while the Toros drop to 8-15, 5-12 CCAA.
In the first game with Kristin Halvorsen serving, UCSD ran off five straight points to take an 11-5 advantage. UCSD opened up an 11 point lead at 19-8 after a Koche and Ries block. UCSD opened up a 14 point lead and cruised to the game one win 30-14.
In game two, UCSD opened up a 13-10 lead after a Koche Ries block. Karen Reis served up an ace to open up a 19-14 advantage, forcing CSUDH to call timeout. UCSD continuted to put the pressure on CSUDH by opening up a 24-16 lead after a Bailey and Hannah Gary block, followed by a Bailey kill. Amber Ries and Bailey sent down back-to-back kills to close out game two at 30-20 UCSD.
In game three, UCSD scored nine of the first 12 points to lead 9-3. The Tritons would then open up a 10 point lead at 23-13. CSUDH would come back within five points at 22-27, but a Ries and Gary block, followed by a Casey Wilson kill would give UCSD the 30-22 win.
UCSD is back in action on Saturday October 28 when it hosts Cal State Monterey Bay at 2:00 p.m. The match will be the final home match for seniors Lauren Chiodini, Kristin Halvorsen, Nicole Courtney and Brianna Koche.
