LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 5th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team cruised to a 14-3 win over Pomona Pitzer on Saturday afternoon in front of 255 fans at Canyonview Pool. Ty Lackey, who scored six times on the day, scored five, first-half goals as the Tritons jumped out to a 10-0 lead and an 11-1 halftime advantage. Adnan Jerkovic and Daniel Garcia added two goals apiece, while A.J. Kotanjian, Nestor Dordoni, Joe Woodring and Curtis Williamson also scored for the Tritons. UCSD improves to 19-4 and head to Davis next week to take on WWPA opponents in UC Davis, Air Force and Santa Clara.
In the first period, Jerkovic scored twice, while Lackey, Garcia and Woodring scored to give UCSD a 5-0 lead.
In the second, Lackey scored UCSD first five goals of the quarter, the last at the 4:02 mark. Pomona Pitzer got on the board with 1:00 remaining, before UCSD closed out the first half scoring on a goal by Garcia at 11-1 UCSD.
UCSD's Kotanjian, Lackey and Williamson scored in the third, with the Sagehens adding two goals in the quarter and it was UCSD 14-3 through three.
Nither team scored in the final frame.
UCSD is back in action on Friday, October 27 when it takes on No. 13 UC Davis in Davis, Calif. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
