Men's Basketball UCSD

Tritons Cruise Past Chico State 61-41

LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's basketball team notched a 61-41 win over Chico State on Saturday night in RIMAC Arena. With the win UCSD improves to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Wildcats fall to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in league action.

The 20-point win is the Tritons' largest margin of victory ever in a conference contest, eclipsing their 19-point win over San Francisco State in December of 2000, their first-ever CCAA game.

Henry Patterson led the way for UCSD with 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting while Shane Poppen and Clint Allard 12 and 10, respectively. Darryl Lawlor chipped in with six points and a team-high five rebounds. Allard had a team-high six assists in the win.

Andy Bocian led all scorers with 16 points while also grabbing a game-high seven rebounds in the loss for the Wildcats. He accounted for five of the 14 field goals made by Chico State on the evening. The Wildcats ended up with a .318 shooting percentage on the night, missing 30 of their 44 shot attempts. CSUC went 5-for-21 from the 3-point line.

UCSD shot 52.5% from the floor on the night, going 21-for-40, including 3-of-9 from long range. The Tritons continued to struggle at the foul line, however, making only 16-of-28 foul shot attempts.

The Tritons return to action on Wednesday evening, playing at Cal State San Bernardino at 7:30 p.m. Following that contest, UCSD travels to Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday night, January 14. That game is also slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
