ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Sonoma State used a 14-0 run to start the second half on their way to a come-from-behind 70-53 win over UC San Diego on Friday night at Seawolf Gym in Rohnert Park. The win preserves the Seawolves' perfect conference record as they improve to 11-4 overall and 9-0 in CCAA play. UC San Diego drops to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in league action.
Friday night was truly a tale of two halves. To say that the first have was tumultuous would be an understatement. UC San Diego went on an 11-3 run midway through the first half to steal the game's momentum. They entered the break up 35-28 which amounted to the largest halftime deficit of the year for Sonoma State. With six minutes remaining in the half the Tritons got a boost when SSU head coach Pat Fuscaldo got back-to-back technical fouls and was ejected.
Associate Head Coach Rich Shayewitz took the reigns for the remainder of the first half and into the locker room. His halftime speech must have worked as SSU came out energized and bolted to a 14-0 run to start the half. Over the first seven and a half minutes of the second half, the Seawolves outscored UCSD 26-4 to put the game away.
Vince Inglima scored 17 points to lead SSU. Paige Dumont turned in a solid all-around performance with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. J.T. Tipton kept busy in the paint with 14 points and eight boards.
Henry Patterson was the lone Triton in double figures with a career-high 20 points. He connected on 8-of-13 shots while also making 4-of-6 from the charity stripe.
UCSD returns to action on Saturday evening, playing at San Francisco State. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
