LA JOLLA, Calif.

- The 12th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team swept Sonoma State 30-24, 30-25, 30-25 on Saturday afternoon in RIMAC Arena. Nicole Courtney had a match-high 12 kills and Kimberly Carpenter had 10 kills with a .320 hitting percentage. Carpenter also notched a double-double with 12 digs. The Tritons served up 12 aces, led by Kim Adams with four and 36 assists. With the win, the Tritons improve to 10-2, 2-1 CCAA while the Seawolves drop to 5-7, 0-4 CCAA. Mindy Orth led SSU with nine kills.

In game one, UCSD opened up a 14-9 lead after a Carpenter kill and an SSU ball handling error. After a Seawolf timeout trailing 14-10, UCSD scored three straight on kills by Rebecca Bailey and Amber Ries, and an ace by Adams. UCSD then led comfortably at 17-10. UCSD led by as many as 10 points at 24-14, but SSU did not go quietly as they scored five of the last six points of the game as Bailey ended the game with a kill at 30-24.

The Tritons looked to be in control of game two, ahead 17-11. SSU fought back to come within 23-20 on a UCSD attack error. Ries then answered with a kill and then a SSU attack error followed to put the Tritons back up by five. SSU came back within three points at 27-24 on a kill by Lindsay Webb. UCSD would hang on and close out game two on a Carpenter kill, 30-25.

In game three, UCSD scored eight of the first 10 points, aided by four SSU attack errors. Courtney sent down a kill to give the Tritons a 17-10 lead before SSU began to chip away at the lead. A UCSD attack error brought the Seawolves within 20-18, but would get no closer as SSU followed with two attack errors and a service error. Adams's fourth ace of the afternoon clinched game three for UCSD 30-25.

UC San Diego is back in action when it travels to northern California to face CCAA opponents Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus. The first match is against Chico State on Friday, September 23 on the Wildcat campus. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
