Nicole Courtney named Molten CCAA Player of the Week

12th-ranked Tritons Sweep Otters

LA JOLLA, Calif.

- The UC San Diego women's volleyball team evened its CCAA record with a 30-20, 30-15, 30-15 sweep over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night. With the win, the Tritons improve to 9-2, 1-1 CCAA while the Otters drop to 4-5, 0-3 CCAA. 10 different Tritons registered kills as the Tritons hit .348 and .346 in games two and three, respectively. Nicole Courtney led all players with 11 kills and three aces while Brianna Koche added eight kills. Laura Watkins tallied 15 digs and Rebecca Bailey added six blocks. Kim Adams and Kristin Halvorsen split setting duties and combined for 29 assists.

In game one, the Tritons led by a slim 18-17 margin before scoring 12 of the next 15 points to close out game one 30-20. Courtney led UCSD with five kills while Koche added four in the first game. Watkins had seven digs.

Game two was a game of runs as the Otters scored the first three points before the Tritons rallied off 11 straight points to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Leading 17-4, CSUMB scored six in a row to cut the deficit to 17-10. UCSD closed out game one on a 13-5 run to cruise to the 30-15 win.

Game three was UCSD from the start as the Tritons quickly built a 14-4 lead. CSUMB would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way as the Tritons took game three easily 30-15.

Other Triton performers included Amber Ries with four kills in 11 attempts without an error, Kimberly Carpenter came off of the bench with five kills without an error, and Hanna Gary saw her first action of the season, recovering from an injury. Gary recorded a kill in two attempts and had two solo blocks in limited action.

UCSD is back in action on Saturday September 17 when it hosts Sonoma State at 3:00 pm in RIMAC Arena.
