PRINCETON, N.J.
- The 7th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team defeated Gannon 16-2 and 10th-ranked Princeton 11-9 to complete the Princeton Invitational undefeated. UCSD improves to 8-1 on the season. In the morning win over Gannon, UCSD led 11-1 at halftime and used a balanced attack.
Steven Jendrusina,
Ty Lackey,
Travis Boettner and
Jesse Casellini each netted three goals apiece. In the highlighted match-up of the tournament against Princeton, UCSD outscored the Tigers 7-4 in the second half for the win. Among multiple goal scorers were
Jonathan Hopkins with three and
Chris Finegold and
Chris Eichholz with two apiece.
In the Tritons 16-2 win over Gannon, Nicholas Takahashi also netted two goals while Kevin Smoker and Adnan Jerkovic also scored.
Against Princeton, Brandon Borso, Lackey, Boettner and Jerkovic added one goal apiece.
In the combined four games, Lackey tallied 13 goals for the Tritons.
UCSD is back in action at the Southern California touranment in Irvine, Calif. on September 16-17. The field will feature several of the top-ranked teams in the country.
