LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team cruised to a 30-16, 30-16, 30-14 sweep against Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night. The win improves the Tritons to 17-5, 9-4 CCAA while the Warriors drop to 4-15, 1-12 CCAA. UCSD had an impressive performance hitting .367 and limiting CSUS to just -0.57. The middle blocking tandem of Brianna Koche (18-1-24, .708) and Rebecca Bailey (10-1-16, .562) paced the Triton attack. Nicole Courtney tallied eight kills (.412) and Amber Ries added seven kills (.333). Kristin Halvorsen had 32 assists in two games while Kim Adams had 16 assists in game three.
Leading 12-10 in game one, Koche put down a kill to start a string of nine consecutive UCSD points to extend the lead to 21-10. Leading 22-12, the Tritons added another small run with Casey Wilson serving. Bailey and Ries tallied kills while CSUS had two errors as UCSD led 27-12. Koche would put game one away with a kill at 30-16. UCSD hit .375 to CSUS's -.040.
In game two, the Tritons took their first lead of the game at 9-8 after a Bailey kill. Leading 16-12, the Tritons scored three quick points on a CSUS ball handling error and two attack errors to go ahead 19-12. The Tritons would end game two on a 10-2 run at 30-16 as UCSD again outhit the Warriors .324-.000.
In game three the Tritons scored eight of the first 11 points, led by three Koche kills. With a 15-9 advantage, UCSD scored six straight points including two Koche kills and a Courtney ace to lead 21-9. The Tritons wrapped up the match on a block assist by Koche and Michelle Torres at 30-14.
Other UCSD notes included Casey Wilson with four kills, while Laura Watkins had 13 digs and Natalie Facchini and Lauren Chiodini had seven digs apiece. Watkins joined teammated Courtney with a team leading three aces apiece.
CSUS was led by Melissa Theriault and Debbie Vander Schaf with four kills apiece.
UCSD is back in action tomorrow afternoon against Chico State. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
